Focus: Pre-Assessment and Introduction

Activities:
1. Introduce and discuss essential question.TC_Bubble
2. Prior to viewing the video, engage students in a brief sourcing activity by showing a screen shot of the news video that shows the video’s sourcing information and ask students, “Who made this?”TC_Bubble
3. Show video-24-512. While watching the video, stop periodically to allow students to take notes. Students’ notes should focus on addressing the essential question based on evidence from the video.
4. Have the students complete a Pre-Assessment Quick Write: What were some of the causes of the riots in Ferguson, Missouri?TC_Bubble
5. After collecting the Pre-Assessment, ask students if they have any questions that came up for them about the video. As students generate questions, create a chart titled “Our Questions about Ferguson.”TC_Bubble This chart will be referenced and added to throughout the module.
